Naturalistic

Naturalistic Intelligence, this intelligence allows us to differenciate and classify aspects related to nature, such as animal  and plants species, nature phenomena...

In order to connect the Labors of Hercules to the Naturalistic Intelligence, the students will look at certain elements from the labors and relate them to concrete scientific concepts that are used today. They will be broken up into groups and work on one of the three following projects:

1. The Real Life Golden Apple

Although the golden apple that the labors reference is not real, an apple is a real fruit of the tree who's latin name is malus domestica.

The project: students will create a presentation to show what a real malus domestica is like: its leaves, flowers, size etc. In addition, the presentation will include the tree's taxinomic classification (family, class, and division).  To complete the presentation, it will compare malus domestica to another tree in the same family and explain the similarities and differences.

2. The 3-Headed Dragon

We would all love for dragons to exist, especially the 3-headed one that Hercules battles, so we are going to bring them to life!

The project:  students will classify the 3- headed dragon: What type of vertebrate would it be? What would the features of the dragon look like? How would it perform it's vital functions ( nutrition, respiration and reproduction)? What would it's sense organs be? What family would it belong to? The presentation should answer all of these questions as if the dragon were real.

3. The Hydra

The Hydra, in relation to Hercules, is an animal that does not actually exist, however its name does belong to a real life animal.

The project: a presentation that will teach us all about the real hydra: what kind of animal is it, what it looks like, how it performs the vital functions (special attention to its alternate form or reproduction!), and to what phyllum it belongs.

We are excited to see what our students come up with and for the final presentations!
